Honor has officially confirmed its Robot Phone will launch in China on August 12, 2026, ending months of speculation about the device that integrates a motorized camera gimbal directly into a smartphone chassis.
The announcement follows a leaked unboxing video that circulated on Weibo this week, showing the retail packaging and hardware ahead of what Honor is calling an Imaging Technology Launch Event held in partnership with professional cinema camera manufacturer ARRI.
Hardware That Moves
The Robot Phone's defining feature is a 4DoF (four degrees of freedom) robotic arm gimbal that rotates 360 degrees and tilts across multiple planes. Unlike conventional smartphone stabilization, which relies on software processing or fixed optical image stabilization, the gimbal physically repositions the camera module to track subjects and counteract shake.
Multiple sources confirm the robotic arm is constructed from titanium alloy, a material choice that balances strength with weight constraints for a handheld device. The mechanism represents a conceptual leap in mobile imaging, moving beyond computational photography into actual hardware movement.
ARRI Partnership Brings Cinema Workflow
Honor's collaboration with ARRI, announced at MWC 2026, integrates professional color science into the device. The phone supports LogC RAW capture and DaVinci Resolve workflows, positioning it as a competitor to dedicated stabilizers like the DJI Osmo rather than conventional flagships.
The Imaging Technology Launch Event with ARRI is scheduled for July 28, 2026, separate from the August 12 consumer launch. This two-stage rollout signals Honor's intent to court both professional creators and enthusiast photographers.

The Robot Phone was first shown at CES 2026 as a non-functioning demo unit. By MWC 2026, Honor displayed a working prototype capable of the subject tracking and stabilization features now confirmed for the retail version.
