Apple is planning a substantial memory upgrade for its standard smartphone lineup to keep pace with the growing demands of generative AI. The base iPhone 18 is expected to feature 12GB of RAM, marking a significant leap from the 8GB found in the iPhone 17.
According to analyst Jeff Pu, this hardware bump will be central to the base iPhone 18's specifications. The device is rumored to launch in early 2027 alongside the iPhone 18e and the iPhone Air 2. While the base model targets 12GB, the iPhone 18e is expected to feature a more modest 9GB of RAM, though it will reportedly share the same A20 chip as its more capable sibling.
