LG and Nvidia Partner to Scale 'Physical AI' via Humanoid Robots
The hardware giant and AI leader are collaborating to deploy humanoid robots and AI-powered factories.
LG Corp. and Nvidia have entered a strategic partnership to transition artificial intelligence from digital environments into the physical world. The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on August 13, 2026, at Nvidia's headquarters in Santa Clara, California, to co-develop "Physical AI" across robotics, industrial manufacturing, and autonomous driving.
The collaboration focuses on the immediate development of advanced robotics. LG is currently building a bipedal humanoid reference robot powered by Nvidia's Jetson Thor computing platform and the Isaac GR00T foundation model, with a planned unveiling in the first quarter of 2027. Additionally, LG will deploy a wheelbase-type humanoid robot, known as LG CLOi, on a washing machine production line in Tennessee by the end of 2026 to conduct real-world validation.
Scaling the Infrastructure
To support these ambitions, LG is investing heavily in the underlying compute power required for robot foundation models. The company plans to complete an 80-megawatt AI factory in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, by the first half of 2028. This facility will serve as the backbone for training and refining the AI models that govern the physical movements and decision-making processes of their robotic fleet.
The Shift to Physical AI
This alliance represents a fundamental shift from simple technical cooperation to a joint business partnership. By combining LG's massive hardware manufacturing scale with Nvidia's dominance in AI compute, the partnership aims to establish the industry standard for how AI interacts with the physical environment. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang emphasized the breadth of the project's potential, stating that the collaboration "will transform our daily lives, from the home to the factory floor to the road."
