MediaTek Launches Dimensity 9600 Pro: First 2nm Flagship Chipset

MediaTek has unveiled the Dimensity 9600 Pro, the company's first flagship smartphone chipset built on TSMC's 2nm process. This transition to a smaller node represents a significant leap in silicon density and power efficiency, positioning MediaTek to compete directly with Apple's A20 Pro and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.

The chipset utilizes an octa-core "All Big Core" CPU architecture tailored for high-performance workloads. The configuration features two C2-Ultra cores clocked at 4.55GHz, three C2-Pro cores at 4.35GHz, and three additional C2-Pro cores running at 3.1GHz. To meet the computational demands of next-generation software, MediaTek integrated a dual-NPU design—comprising the NPU 1090 and the Super Efficient NPU 2.0—specifically optimized for agentic AI.

The Transition to 2nm Silicon

The mobile industry is currently undergoing a critical shift toward 2nm silicon to unlock gains in power efficiency and on-device intelligence. By adopting this node, MediaTek aligns its hardware roadmap with the broader industry trend toward smaller transistors, which allow for increased processing power within the same thermal envelope. Powering Agentic AI

The Dimensity 9600 Pro supports on-device AI models with up to 30 billion parameters.
