Motorola has officially entered the magnetic charging market with the unveiling of the Snap Wireless Charger at IFA 2026. The move provides Android users with a first-party alternative to Apple's MagSafe ecosystem by integrating native magnetic alignment into its hardware strategy.

The Snap Wireless Charger is built on the Qi2.2 open standard, which utilizes magnets to ensure the charging coil is perfectly aligned with the device for maximum efficiency. According to technical specifications, the charger delivers up to 25W of power for standard Qi2-compatible devices. However, Motorola has implemented a proprietary protocol that boosts charging speeds up to 30W for compatible Motorola handsets.

The Shift to Native Magnets

For several years, the Android ecosystem lacked a unified magnetic standard, forcing users to rely on third-party cases or generic Qi chargers to achieve a similar experience to Apple's proprietary system.
