Samsung Electronics Service has dispatched a specialized disaster recovery team to Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, to assist residents following severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall. The initiative aims to accelerate the recovery of affected households by providing immediate technical support for damaged electronics.

According to the Maeil Business Newspaper, the company established a mobile service center located near the Dundeok-myeon office. This hub provides free cleaning and inspections for a range of water-damaged household appliances, specifically targeting essential items such as refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners. To address the loss of personal connectivity, Samsung also deployed a specialized bus equipped with dedicated inspection devices designed specifically for the cleaning, drying, and testing of water-damaged mobile phones.

Localized Disaster Response

This emergency operation comes in response to significant flooding across the Geoje region, where heavy rains led to widespread damage to both personal devices and large home electronics. Because many residents were unable to transport heavy machinery to a central location, Samsung service engineers are conducting direct home visits in areas where flood damage is most concentrated to ensure that the most vulnerable residents receive assistance.

Corporate Infrastructure as Relief

This effort highlights how Samsung is leveraging its existing technical infrastructure to fulfill corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals during national emergencies. By converting mobile units and specialized buses into temporary repair clinics, the company can bypass the delays associated with traditional service center intake, providing a rapid-response model that is critical in the immediate aftermath of a natural disaster. For the affected residents, this reduces the financial burden of replacing expensive appliances and restores essential household functions more quickly.

Future Outlook

While the current focus remains on the immediate cleaning and drying of electronics to prevent permanent corrosion, the long-term impact of the flooding on the region's infrastructure remains a primary concern. It remains to be seen if Samsung will extend these free services to other flood-affected regions in South Gyeongsang Province or if the current deployment in Geoje will serve as a blueprint for future emergency recovery protocols.
