Samsung Galaxy S26 FE boosts battery life via 3nm Exynos 2500 chipset

The Samsung Galaxy S26 FE has launched with a significant leap in battery endurance, driven by a shift in processor architecture rather than physical battery size. The device is now available in multiple markets with pricing starting at $700, £700, and €800.

According to battery and charging tests published by GSMArena, the Galaxy S26 FE achieved an active use score of 14:49 hours. This represents a substantial improvement over its predecessors, the S25 FE and S24 FE, which recorded scores of 11:56 hours and 11:47 hours, respectively. These gains were achieved despite the device maintaining a 4,900mAh battery and a 6.7-inch 1080p+ OLED display.

Efficiency over Capacity

The primary driver for the increased longevity is the integration of the 3nm Exynos 2500 chipset. This processor provides superior energy efficiency compared to the Exynos 2400 used in previous iterations. By reducing power consumption at the silicon level, Samsung has extended the device's operational life without increasing the physical footprint of the battery cell.

Stagnant Charging Performance

While endurance has improved, charging speeds remain unchanged. The Galaxy S26 FE continues to support 45W charging, resulting in a 40% charge in 15 minutes and 69% in 30 minutes. A full charge takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.

GSMArena noted that this total charge time is identical to that of the S25 FE and S24 FE. This is particularly notable given that the S24 FE was officially rated for only 25W, suggesting that Samsung's actual charging curves have remained conservative across three generations of the Fan Edition series.

Industry Implications

These results highlight a critical trend in smartphone development: the diminishing returns of increasing battery capacity versus the high impact of chipset efficiency. As physical space within chassis becomes limited, the move to 3nm fabrication allows manufacturers to offer meaningful real-world gains without altering the device's dimensions or weight.

However, the lack of progress in charging speeds underscores a strategic divide in Samsung's lineup. While the company is introducing faster 60W charging for its Ultra flagship, the FE and Plus variants remain capped at 45W, maintaining a clear tier of performance for the most expensive models.

What to Watch

As the S26 FE enters the market, the focus shifts to whether other mid-premium competitors adopt similar 3nm efficiency gains to compete on endurance. It remains to be seen if Samsung will eventually upgrade the charging hardware for the FE line or if the 45W ceiling will persist into the next generation.
