Samsung Plans Eight Flagship Phones in 2027 as TriFold Goes Mainstream

Leaks reveal a '4+4' strategy that adds a Pro model to the S-series and makes the tri-fold a permanent fixture.

Samsung is preparing to launch eight flagship Galaxy phones in 2027, doubling down on a premium-heavy lineup split between traditional slab phones and foldable devices, according to leaks from Korean and Western tech outlets.

The '4+4' strategy, first reported by ETNews and corroborated by Android Authority and 9to5Google, calls for four S-series devices in the first half of the year followed by four foldables in the second half. The move marks Samsung's most aggressive flagship expansion yet as it defends against rising competition from Chinese manufacturers.

S27 Series Adds Pro Tier

The Galaxy S27 lineup will reportedly include the S27, S27+, S27 Pro, and S27 Ultra. The Pro model between the Plus and Ultra mirrors Apple's tiered iPhone strategy and gives Samsung more granular pricing in the premium segment.

Internal codenames for the four devices are 'Next Miracle' NM1 through NM4, according to 9to5Google. The S27 series is expected to adopt silicon-carbon battery technology, though sources caution capacity gains may be modest due to cost constraints.

Camera upgrades for the S27 Pro include a 50-megapixel ultrawide sensor (Sony IMX855) and a 50-megapixel telephoto lens, though the exact zoom level remains unconfirmed. The front camera is listed at 16 megapixels with autofocus, possibly with optical image stabilization.

TriFold Becomes Permanent

The second-half foldable lineup consists of the Galaxy Z Flip 9, Galaxy Z Fold 9, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z TriFold 2. The TriFold 2 is expected to enter regular production rather than remaining a limited experimental device.

Samsung's first tri-fold prototype was showcased at APEC 2025 and launched in December 2025. Making it a permanent member of the flagship roster signals confidence in the form factor's commercial viability after initial market testing.

Why Eight Phones

The expanded lineup reflects Samsung's attempt to cover more price points and use cases as the smartphone market matures. The foldable segment has grown rapidly, but competition from Oppo, Vivo, and Honor has intensified in 2026. Adding a Fold 9 Ultra alongside the TriFold 2 gives Samsung premium options at multiple price tiers.

For the S-series, the Pro model fills a gap between the Plus and Ultra that Apple has exploited with its iPhone Pro line. Samsung's traditional three-tier S-series may have left money on the table among buyers who want more than a Plus but don't need the Ultra's full spec sheet.

The 2027 roadmap has not been officially confirmed by Samsung. The company typically announces S-series flagships in January or February, with foldables following in July or August.
