Three Mobile Pivots to Gen Z with 'Let Fun In' Rebrand

The telco shifts from functional network messaging to emotional engagement, featuring a viral TikTok star in an inflatable chicken costume.

Three Mobile has launched a new creative platform titled "Let Fun In," marking a strategic departure from its previous brand positioning. The campaign aims to capture a younger demographic by emphasizing spontaneity and real-world connection over purely digital consumption.

Developed by Wonderhood Studios, the launch is centered on a hero film starring 11-year-old figure skater Katarina Suemnig from Plymouth, Minnesota. Suemnig appears in an inflatable chicken jockey costume, a nod to her original performance that became a viral sensation with over 25 million views on TikTok. The campaign is being deployed across a wide array of channels, including ITV for television, cinema, and a high-profile out-of-home takeover of the Oxford Circus tunnel, alongside placements on Netflix, Meta, and TikTok.

A Shift in Strategy

This rebranding represents a pivot away from the company's former "Life Needs A Big Network" platform. While previous messaging focused on the functional utility of network coverage, the new direction seeks to establish a distinctive, optimistic "challenger" identity. This move comes as Three operates within the broader VodafoneThree portfolio, which includes brands such as VOXI, SMARTY, and Talkmobile.

According to Maria Koutsoudakis, Chief Brand Officer at VodafoneThree, the initiative marks a new milestone for the brand, noting that Three has always stood for doing things differently. Jack Croft, Executive Creative Director at Wonderhood Studios, stated that the goal is to wake users from their "scrolling slumber" and return to using phones for their original purpose: facilitating fun.

Industry Implications

For the wider market, the campaign signals an attempt to reposition mobile connectivity as a tool for experience rather than just a medium for scrolling. By targeting Gen Z and young millennials through emotional engagement, Three is attempting to carve out a unique space within the consolidated VodafoneThree corporate structure.

This brand refresh coincides with significant backend investment. VodafoneThree has committed £11 billion to the development of the UK's network infrastructure by 2034. The "Let Fun In" platform serves as the consumer-facing layer of this larger integration, pairing massive infrastructure spending with a fresh, youth-oriented image.

What to Watch

As Three moves away from functional messaging, the industry will be watching to see if this emotional pivot translates into increased market share among younger adults. While the infrastructure goals are clearly defined by the £11 billion commitment, the success of the "Let Fun In" identity will depend on whether the brand can maintain its challenger status within the larger VodafoneThree ecosystem.
