Total Sonics Brings Audio Enhancement Suite to MediaTek Mobile and IoT SoCs
The integration allows device manufacturers to implement premium audio processing without additional hardware.
Total Sonics has announced that its suite of audio enhancement and calibration technologies is now available on select MediaTek System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions. The expansion brings high-end audio processing to smartphones, tablets, and IoT devices, marking a significant broadening of the existing relationship between the two companies.
The integration includes a comprehensive suite of tools designed to optimize sound quality. Key technologies now available on MediaTek hardware include Total Immersion, which provides height virtualization, and Total Bass, a psychoacoustic bass extension tool. Additionally, the suite features Total Cal for automated in-home calibration and a variety of speaker optimization algorithms. According to Total Sonics, the licensing division of THAT Corporation, these tools allow manufacturers to deliver premium audio experiences directly through the SoC.
Strategic Expansion
This move expands a partnership that was previously limited to MediaTek's Smart Home, Voice Assistant, and Smart TV categories. Total Sonics, which was founded by engineers from the dbx brand, specializes in audio processing software that improves sound quality in consumer electronics. By moving into the mobile and IoT sectors, the company is targeting a larger share of the hardware market. MediaTek is currently one of the world's largest fabless semiconductor companies, powering approximately one in three mobile phones globally.

For device manufacturers, the primary benefit of this integration is the ability to deliver high-end audio—such as immersive sound fields from only two speakers or deep bass from small drivers—without the need for additional hardware components. This reduction in physical components lowers overall production costs and reduces design complexity. By shifting the heavy lifting of audio processing to the SoC, manufacturers can improve the acoustic performance of mass-market devices that are often limited by their small physical footprints.
