X Money Launches Limited US Rollout to Premium Subscribers

Elon Musk's fintech push begins with high-yield accounts and metal debit cards, though New York and Massachusetts remain excluded.

X has begun rolling out X Money, its financial services platform, to Premium and Premium+ subscribers in the United States. The July 27, 2026 launch follows an invite-only beta that started in March, marking a significant step in Elon Musk's ambition to transform X into an "everything app" combining social media with banking and payments.

Banking Features Built Into the App

X Money integrates deposit accounts, peer-to-peer payments, and a Visa debit card directly into the X app. The debit card is available in virtual and physical versions, with the metal card customizable with the user's X handle.

The platform offers up to 6.00% APY on deposits and 3% cashback on eligible purchases. Additional benefits include no foreign transaction fees and early direct deposit up to two days ahead of schedule.

FDIC Coverage Through Partner Bank

X Payments LLC is not an FDIC-insured bank. Deposits are held at Cross River Bank, an FDIC member, providing standard coverage up to $250,000. Premium+ users can access up to $10 million in coverage through a cash sweep program.

The service integrates with Visa payment rails and supports Apple Wallet, positioning it alongside established fintech competitors.

Geographic Limitations Remain

X Money has secured money-transmitter licenses in 41 US states and Washington D.C. The service remains unavailable in New York and Massachusetts, where licensing is still pending.

Rollout Timeline

A full public rollout to all X users is targeted for mid-2026, though no confirmed completion date has been announced. The limited launch allows X to test infrastructure and customer support systems before expanding access.

By embedding financial services into its social platform, X aims to increase user retention and diversify revenue beyond advertising. The success of X Money could determine whether Musk's everything-app vision extends beyond social media into the fintech sector.
