A24 has officially wrapped production on its live-action adaptation of the hit video game Elden Ring. The project, which brings the atmospheric world of the Lands Between to the big screen, is now moving into post-production with a scheduled release date of March 3, 2028.

Confirmation of the wrap surfaced via a now-deleted Instagram post from prop artist Sean Schofield. In the post, Schofield described the experience as a "dream job to end all dream jobs," noting the intense effort required to bring the project's unique visual elements to life. The production, led by director Alex Garland, lasted approximately four months.

A High-Stakes Collaboration

The film is a joint venture between A24 and Bandai Namco Entertainment, based on the 2022 action RPG developed by FromSoftware. To ensure the cinematic version maintains the depth of the original source material, George R.R. Martin—who co-created the game's mythology alongside Hidetaka Miyazaki—is serving as a producer on the film. This partnership blends A24's reputation for prestige cinema with the expansive lore of one of the most successful gaming titles of the decade.

Redefining Gaming Cinema

This project marks a significant strategic move for A24 as it ventures into the high-profile gaming adaptation space. By pairing the project with Alex Garland, a director renowned for cerebral and visually striking science fiction, the studio is signaling an intent to move beyond traditional adaptation tropes. The goal is to translate the complex, atmospheric world-building of Elden Ring into a cinematic experience that could potentially set a new benchmark for the dark fantasy genre.

The Road to 2028

While the production has concluded, several key details remain under wraps. A24 and Bandai Namco have not yet officially confirmed the final casting list or the specific plot direction of the film. Fans and industry analysts will be watching for the first official teaser and casting announcements as the project heads toward its March 2028 premiere.
