Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 Locks In August 2026 Release Date

Cold Iron Studios and Daybreak Game Company have confirmed that Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 will launch on August 25, 2026, ending months of speculation around the sequel's release window.

The game will arrive on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Four-Player Squads and Expanded Classes

The most significant upgrade from the 2021 original is the expansion of co-op gameplay from three players to four. This change directly addresses one of the most common criticisms of the first game, which players praised for its frenetic action but faulted for its limited squad size and short campaign runtime.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 introduces five unique classes and a new Specialist endgame class designed for custom Marines. The Specialist system aims to deepen squad mechanics and provide more robust endgame content, extending replayability beyond the main campaign.

Cross-Platform Play and Voice Chat

Cold Iron is also implementing cross-platform play across all supported systems, allowing players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S to squad up together. In-game voice chat will be built in, reducing reliance on external communication tools for coordinated play.

The sequel remains in development at Cold Iron Studios, with Daybreak Game Company handling publishing duties. Early leaks of a follow-up emerged as far back as July 2024, initially pointing to a 2025 release before the window shifted to Q3 2026.

The original Aliens: Fireteam Elite carved out a niche among licensed sci-fi horror shooters, drawing players who wanted squad-based action in the Aliens universe without the survival-horror constraints of titles like Alien: Isolation. The sequel's expanded player count and class system suggest Cold Iron is doubling down on the co-op shooter angle rather than pivoting toward pure horror.
