Atlus Producer Says Persona 1 and 2 Remakes Are Something the Studio "Has to Do"

P-Studio producer Kazuhisa Wada signals a strong desire to modernize the series' earliest entries.

TechNewsReel Newsroom · August 10, 2026

Kazuhisa Wada, a producer for Atlus' P-Studio, has expressed a strong personal desire to remake the first two entries of the Persona series. While he stopped short of confirming that these projects are currently in active development, Wada indicated that updating the early titles is a necessary step for the franchise.

Speaking on the potential for these remakes, Wada stated, "At this point, I can’t say for sure, but personally, I think it’s something we should definitely do. I think we have to do it." The comments highlight a growing internal appetite at Atlus to bring the series' origins into the modern era, following a successful trend of refreshing older titles for new audiences.

A Pattern of Modernization

This interest comes as Atlus continues to aggressively modernize its catalog. The studio recently released Persona 3 Reload, a comprehensive reimagining of the third entry, and has already scheduled the launch of Persona 4 Revival for February 18, 2027, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Despite the success of later titles, the first two games—originally released in the 1990s as Revelations: Persona and Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment—remain the only mainline entries without a modern reimagining. These titles currently stand as the outliers in a franchise that has otherwise seen its major milestones polished for current-generation hardware.

Bridging the Accessibility Gap

For the Persona community, the lack of updated versions of the first two games represents a significant barrier to entry. Due to their age and limited availability on modern platforms, these early titles are often considered inaccessible to the millions of fans who joined the series during the Persona 5 era.

By signaling that these remakes are something the studio "has to do," Wada suggests that Atlus recognizes both the critical and commercial value of completing the series' remake cycle. Bringing these stories to modern consoles would not only preserve the franchise's history but potentially expand the brand's reach to a wider global audience.

The Road to Persona 6

Atlus is currently balancing these legacy interests with several high-profile future projects. The studio is in the process of developing Persona 6, and reports indicate that a live-action Netflix adaptation of the franchise is also in the works.

While the producer's comments provide a clear direction of intent, fans will have to wait for an official announcement to know if Persona 1 and 2 have moved from a "personal desire" to a production schedule. For now, the focus remains on the upcoming release of Persona 4 Revival and the eventual debut of the sixth mainline entry.
