Bulkhead Targets 2028 Console Launch for Tactical FPS Wardogs
The 100-player shooter will arrive on Xbox and PS5 following a prolonged PC early access period.
Bulkhead has officially confirmed that its tactical all-out warfare FPS, Wardogs, will be released on Xbox and PlayStation 5. The announcement establishes a long-term roadmap for the title, which is currently being refined through a PC-first development cycle.
While the game launched in early access on Steam on September 10, 2026, the console versions are not expected to arrive until 2028. Currently available for $39.99 on Steam, the game is utilizing an early access model to iterate on mechanics based on player feedback before moving toward a full 1.0 release. Joe Brammer, CEO at Bulkhead, described the current state of the project as "ambitious, rough around the edges and still has a long way to go," noting that this is the intended purpose of the early access phase.
The Scale of Wardogs
Wardogs distinguishes itself in the FPS genre through massive scale and environmental volatility. The game features 100-player matches divided among three competing teams, all fighting for control of specific zones. These battles take place within a destructible environment set in Eastern Europe, a feature that allows players to physically alter the map as the conflict progresses. The title gained significant momentum in 2026 after a series of positive private playtests positioned it as a surprise contender in the tactical shooter space.
Technical and Platform Hurdles
The significant gap between the September 2026 PC launch and the 2028 console target underscores the technical complexity of the project. Porting massive, 100-player battlefields with fully destructible environments to consoles requires extensive optimization to maintain performance and stability. Furthermore, the timeline reflects the necessity of meeting strict certification policies held by platform owners like Sony and Microsoft, which often require a higher level of polish than is typical for early access PC titles.
Looking Ahead
As Bulkhead and publisher Team17 continue to develop the game, the Steam price is expected to increase as more content and features are added. The primary focus for the next two years remains the stabilization of the PC build and the gradual porting process. While the 2028 window is confirmed, the industry will be watching to see if the developer can maintain the game's momentum during the long wait for console players to join the fray.
