Captain Rex is returning to the Star Wars universe in the upcoming video game Star Wars: Zero Company. The veteran clone trooper was confirmed via the title's final trailer, where he is seen gearing up for battle.

Developed by Bit Reactor in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and published by EA, Star Wars: Zero Company is a single-player turn-based tactics title. The game is scheduled for release on August 27, 2026, for Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. In addition to Rex, the game features the return of Matt Lanter, who provides the voice for Anakin Skywalker.

A New Conflict in the Clone Wars

Set during the twilight of the Clone Wars era, the narrative shifts focus away from the grand army to a more specialized conflict. The plot follows Hawks, a former officer of the Galactic Republic, and his mercenary group known as Zero Company. Together, they are tasked with fighting the Infinite Coil, a separatist cult dedicated to the Dark Side. This setting allows the game to explore the fringes of the galactic conflict while integrating established figures from the era's lore.

Impact on the Franchise

Rex's inclusion is a significant draw for the fanbase, as the character has evolved into a cornerstone of the Star Wars animated continuity. Since his debut in the 2008 The Clone Wars film and series, Rex has maintained a consistent presence across Star Wars Rebels, The Bad Batch, and Tales of the Jedi. He also made a live-action flashback appearance in the 2023 Ahsoka series. By placing Rex in a canon game, Lucasfilm keeps the character active in the current storytelling landscape, maintaining momentum for the character's ongoing trajectory in the broader franchise.

What to Watch

While the trailer confirms Rex's presence, the extent of his role remains unclear. It is not yet known if he will be a playable unit within the turn-based combat system or a supporting NPC providing guidance to Hawks and Zero Company. Fans will be looking for further details on how the game's squad-based mechanics integrate with the established hierarchy of the Clone Wars military as the August 2026 release date approaches.
