Fantasy Flight Unveils Star Wars Unlimited 'Homeworlds' With Playable Death Star

The ninth set launches in October 2026 with 260+ cards and a roadmap extending through 2027.

Fantasy Flight Games announced 'Homeworlds' during the Galactic Report at the 2026 Galactic Championship in Las Vegas, revealing a ninth set that lets players deploy the Death Star as a unit and commits to four more expansions through 2027.

The October 2026 release brings over 260 new cards, two new token types (Beast and Weakness), and a keyword called Fortify. Grand Moff Tarkin becomes the game's first leader capable of deploying as the Death Star unit, which can defeat enemy bases with 10 or less remaining HP.

Spotlight Decks and New Mechanics

FFG confirmed two Spotlight Decks will launch alongside Homeworlds, featuring Chewbacca and Grand Moff Tarkin respectively. These preconstructed decks give players immediate access to the set's marquee leaders.

The new token types expand gameplay options beyond current resource and damage tracking. Beast tokens and Weakness tokens introduce new mechanical dimensions, while Fortify adds defensive play options. Full mechanical details remain ahead of the October launch.

2027 Roadmap Signals Long-Term Commitment

FFG outlined the entire 2027 release calendar. Four sets are planned:

  • Legacy of Skywalker (standard format)
  • System Overload (Twin Suns Format)
  • Icons (standard format)
  • Galaxy At War (Twin Suns Format)

The alternating standard and Twin Suns Format releases mirror successful patterns from other trading card games, keeping both Premier competitive play and the more casual Twin Suns environment fresh throughout the year.

Why This Matters for the TCG's Future

Announcing a full year of content during the Galactic Championship — held July 24-26 in Las Vegas — signals confidence in Star Wars Unlimited's trajectory. The playable Death Star mechanic represents one of the most ambitious card designs in the game's history, while the 2027 roadmap addresses questions about the title's longevity.

For competitive players, the Twin Suns Format expansions (System Overload and Galaxy At War) provide structured rotation windows. Casual collectors get steady content drops without format whiplash. The Death Star card — a unit that can close out games by destroying weakened bases — will reshape deck construction across archetypes.

Homeworlds arrives October 2026. Exact date TBA.
