FFXIV Patch 7.56 Adds Beastmaster as New Limited Job
The collection-focused role lets players capture monsters and build a Master's Bestiary for solo play.
Square Enix has officially expanded the roster of specialized roles in Final Fantasy XIV with the introduction of the Beastmaster (BST). Launched as part of Patch 7.56, the job serves as the game's second "limited job," offering a distinct gameplay loop centered on monster collection and solo exploration.
Operating with a level cap of 50, the Beastmaster allows players to populate a Master's Bestiary containing 50 captureable beasts. To add a creature to their collection, players must locate targets in the field or within dungeons, weaken them in combat, and successfully execute the "Catch" action. This mechanic transforms the world of Eorzea into a vast hunting ground where the environment itself becomes the primary source of progression.
A Legacy of Limited Jobs
The Beastmaster follows the structural precedent set by the Blue Mage. As a limited job, it is designed primarily for solo content and specialized challenges rather than the standard group-oriented experience. Consequently, the role cannot be used for primary story quests or standard group dungeons. This design choice ensures that while the Beastmaster provides a deep secondary activity, it does not disrupt the carefully balanced ecosystem of the game's main combat roles.
Impact on Gameplay
The addition of the Beastmaster introduces a significant collection-based layer to the FFXIV experience. By capturing a diverse array of monsters, players can customize their combat approach based on the specific skills of the beasts they deploy. This shift toward a "collector" mentality encourages players to revisit older zones and dungeons with a new objective, adding longevity to existing content through the pursuit of a complete bestiary.
Future Challenges
Beyond the initial hunt, the job includes its own dedicated endgame content. Beastmasters have access to an exclusive duty known as the Crucible of the Unbroken, a specialized challenge designed to test the synergy between the player and their captured beasts. As the community begins to map out the most efficient capture routes, the focus will likely shift toward optimizing beast loadouts for these high-difficulty solo encounters.
