Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige pushed back against fan concerns about Doctor Doom's introduction in the MCU during San Diego Comic-Con 2026. Following the announcement that Robert Downey Jr. will portray the Latverian monarch in Avengers: Doomsday, social media discourse suggested the character lacked the extensive foreshadowing afforded to Thanos during the Infinity Saga.

Speaking on the red carpet with IGN's Brandon Davis on July 25, 2026, Feige argued that perception of Thanos's buildup is constructed more by memory and memes than actual screen time. "The Thanos buildup has built up in people's heads over the years," Feige said. He noted Thanos's early appearances were minimal, often limited to post-credits scenes where he sat on a chair. "He put on a gauntlet and said, 'I'll do it myself.' And he yelled at Ronan on a video screen briefly."

Feige clarified that Avengers: Infinity War served as the actual introduction to the character for general audiences. "When we got to Infinity War we said, 'This is really the introduction of Thanos to the people.' That's how that movie was built. That's what we're doing with Doom. Doomsday is an introduction to the story of Doom."

The comments followed Marvel Studios' Hall H panel, where the casting reveal generated significant excitement. This strategic shift positions Avengers: Doomsday as the starting point for Doom's narrative arc rather than the climax of a decade-long plan.
