Pokémon Bank to Shut Down February 2027, Ending Legacy Transfers

The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Bank, the long-standing storage and transfer application for the Nintendo 3DS, will officially cease operations on February 25, 2027, at 7 p.m. PST. This shutdown marks the final expiration date for users to move their stored Pokémon into the modern ecosystem.

To manage the transition, the company is urging all users to migrate their collections to Pokémon HOME, the successor service available on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. To accommodate the expected influx of legacy data, Pokémon HOME is increasing the storage capacity for its Premium Plan subscribers. Starting in October, the limit will rise from 6,000 to 9,000 Pokémon, providing more room for veteran players to house their collections.

The Legacy of the 3DS Hub

Launched in Japan in 2013 and globally in 2014, Pokémon Bank functioned as the primary digital hub for storing and moving Pokémon across various Nintendo 3DS titles. It served as the essential link for players moving creatures between different generations of the franchise. Even after the closure of the 3DS eShop in 2023, the application remained available for free to those who had previously downloaded it, maintaining a tenuous lifeline for legacy players.

The End of the Bridge

Once the service goes offline in 2027, the path to move Pokémon from these older games into modern titles will be permanently severed.
