Ravensburger Debuts 'Coconut' Multiplayer Format for Disney Lorcana
The new open-beta format introduces singleton deck-building and a modified victory condition to foster social play.
Ravensburger has soft-launched a new multiplayer play format for Disney Lorcana called "Coconut," debuting the experience at Gen Con 2026. The move signals a strategic shift toward social, large-group gaming for the trading card game.
Showcased and tested during Gen Con Indy from July 30 to August 2, the Coconut format is currently in an open beta phase. Designed for three to four players, the format utilizes singleton-style deck-building rules, requiring players to include only one copy of each card, with the exception of the associated character card. To secure a victory, players must reach a modified lore goal of 25. Additionally, the beta incorporates "Coconut cards"—special spotlighted character cards accessible via the TCG Companion app.
A Shift Toward Social Play
Disney Lorcana has traditionally supported standard constructed, sealed, and booster draft formats. The introduction of Coconut represents a pivot toward leader-centric, multiplayer gaming. This approach mirrors a broader industry trend toward singleton formats, which prioritize variety and unique deck compositions over the rigid optimization often found in competitive two-player tournament structures.
Capturing the Casual-Competitive Market
By implementing a social, multiplayer framework, Ravensburger is targeting the "casual-competitive" segment of the TCG market. This format allows players greater creative freedom in deck construction and encourages a community-driven meta. The goal is to move away from strict competitive play and instead foster "epic" game states and increased social interaction among players.
The Road to Full Release
As the format remains in open beta, the community will continue to test the balance of the 25-lore victory condition and the integration of the TCG Companion app. While the mechanics draw parallels to other multiplayer TCG formats, Ravensburger has not yet detailed a full commercial release or a finalized set of official rules beyond the current beta testing phase.
