Remedy pivots to Control Resonant as Alan Wake 2 sales top 3 million
Despite a 40% revenue dip in Q2 2026, the studio reports strong pre-launch metrics for its next major title.
Remedy Entertainment has announced that Alan Wake 2 surpassed 3 million copies sold as of the second quarter of 2026. The milestone arrives as the studio pivots its financial focus toward the upcoming release of Control Resonant.
Despite the sales success of Alan Wake 2, Remedy reported a significant year-on-year revenue decline for Q2 2026, with earnings dropping 40% to €10.2 million. While profitability also decreased, the company noted that cash flow from operations improved, reaching €7.6 million. To offset the revenue dip, which followed the conclusion of active updates for FBC: Firebreak, the studio is leaning into the anticipation for its next AAA project.
The Road to Control Resonant
Remedy is positioning Control Resonant as a cornerstone of its future growth. According to company data, the title has already amassed 1.5 million wishlists across PC and consoles. Furthermore, the game ranks among the top three pre-ordered PlayStation titles in the United States, Germany, and Brazil.
CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon has been explicit about the title's importance, stating, "We position Control Resonant as a must-have day-one purchase while also building Control into a lasting franchise."
Expanding the Connected Universe
This strategic push is part of a broader effort to expand the "Remedy Connected Universe," a narrative framework linking the Control and Alan Wake franchises. By weaving these stories together, Remedy aims to increase the lifetime value of its intellectual property and attract a wider audience to its interconnected worlds.
Beyond Control Resonant, the studio's pipeline remains active. Remedy continues development on the Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes and has confirmed that an unannounced project has officially reached "production readiness."
The Shift to Self-Publishing
These developments are critical as Remedy transitions toward a self-publishing model for its own IP. Moving away from third-party publishers allows the studio to retain more control and a larger share of profits, though it increases the financial risk associated with development cycles.
Because the studio is investing heavily in its AAA pipeline, the commercial performance of Control Resonant will be a decisive factor. The game's ability to convert high wishlist numbers and pre-order rankings into day-one sales will determine whether Remedy can sustainably fund its ambitious slate of upcoming remakes and new titles without external publishing support.
