Remedy Entertainment has provided a first look at the gameplay for Control Resonant, the sequel to its 2019 supernatural hit. The exclusive footage, featured via IGN First, highlights a mission titled 'Metro Fault' that introduces significant shifts in setting and mechanics.
In the showcased footage, players control Dylan Faden, the brother of the original game's protagonist, Jesse Faden. The action takes place in an alternate version of Manhattan that has been corrupted by paranatural threats. During the 'Metro Fault' mission, Dylan navigates a dungeon-like underground environment filled with hazards and combat encounters against fungal Mold enemies. The sequence concludes with the acquisition of 'Reach,' a new traversal ability that functions as a grappling hook.
Expanding the New Weird
While the first Control was primarily confined to the shifting corridors of the Oldest House, Control Resonant moves the narrative into a broader urban landscape. This transition marks a shift toward an action-RPG structure with open-world elements. The 'Metro Fault' is part of a larger system of dungeon-like areas known as 'Faults,' which serve as the primary method for players to unlock new skills and abilities as they progress through the story.

The introduction of the Fault system and the Reach ability suggests a major evolution in level design compared to the first title.
