Sega Opens Sign-Ups for Crazy Taxi: World Tour Closed Network Test
Fans can register until August 31 to play two multiplayer modes this September ahead of the 2027 launch.
Sega is inviting players to get behind the wheel early. The publisher announced a Closed Network Test for Crazy Taxi: World Tour, scheduled for September 11-13, 2026, with registration open through August 31.
Test Details and Modes
The network test runs from 5 p.m. PDT on September 11 through 5 p.m. PDT on September 13. Selected participants will access two multiplayer modes across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. Pickup Race pits up to six drivers against each other to collect the most passengers. Cops 'N' Cabbies is a 3-on-3 team mode featuring two teams of taxi drivers competing head-to-head.
Players will experience two maps, four playable characters, and six vehicles with customization options. The test represents the first hands-on opportunity for fans since the reboot was unveiled during the Xbox Games Showcase and Summer Game Fest 2026.
Full Release Planned for 2027
Crazy Taxi: World Tour is scheduled to launch in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. The game features a story-driven campaign centered on recovering protagonist Axel's stolen cab from a crew of international thieves.
Polygon reported that licensed businesses including IHOP and Amoeba Music will appear in the game, continuing the series' tradition of featuring recognizable real-world locations. Sega's official site emphasizes a global scale with regional retailers and restaurants across multiple locations, all rendered in the franchise's signature colorful art style.
Modernizing an Arcade Classic
The network test signals Sega's push to adapt the arcade racing formula for contemporary online play. Cross-platform multiplayer and team-based modes mark a departure from the original's solo time-attack focus, though the core objective—picking up fares and delivering them quickly—remains intact.
The test's multi-platform availability suggests cross-play functionality will be a feature at launch. No details have been disclosed about selection criteria for network test participants or how Sega will distribute access codes.
