Team Clout Unveils 'ILL', a Hyper-Realistic Body Horror Experience for 2027
Developed by film industry veterans, the first-person survival horror title focuses on visceral dismemberment and physical discomfort.
Team Clout has revealed 'ILL', a first-person action survival horror game designed to push the boundaries of visceral body horror. The title is targeting a 2027 release window for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Showcased during Summer Game Fest 2025 and a subsequent PlayStation State of Play, the game features a world populated by bloated humanoid monsters. The gameplay is built around a reactive, tactile world that emphasizes detailed dismemberment mechanics. Players will engage in resource management and weapon upgrading, utilizing an arsenal that includes AK-47s, shotguns, sniper rifles, and various melee weapons to survive the environment.
A Cinematic Approach to Horror
The project is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and is led by a team of veterans with credits on high-profile horror productions, including Longlegs, V/H/S/Beyond, and It: Welcome to Derry. To achieve the unsettling, uncanny movements of its creatures, Team Clout received animation and development support from Mundfish. This cinematic pedigree informs the game's aesthetic, which draws heavy inspiration from the practical-effect horror films of the 1970s through the 1990s, as well as systemic horror staples like Resident Evil and Silent Hill.
Redefining Physical Discomfort
Unlike many modern horror titles that rely on scripted jump scares, 'ILL' aims to create a grounded sense of physical dread. The goal is to make the player feel as though the horror is physically happening to them, moving beyond psychological tension toward a specific body-level discomfort.
Beyond the gore, the game incorporates systemic elements to enhance exploration. The title takes cues from Half-Life 2, treating the world as a sandbox where physics-based exploration allows players to interact with the environment and encounter unexpected surprises.
The Road to 2027
As development continues toward its 2027 target, the industry will be watching how Team Clout translates its film-industry expertise into a playable system. While the core mechanics of combat and exploration have been established, the full extent of the game's environmental puzzles and narrative remains to be seen. For now, the focus remains on the technical execution of its hyper-realistic visuals and the systemic integration of its signature body horror.
