Two Point Museum adds theme park mechanics in Rides & Relics DLC
Two Point Studios blends museum curation with coaster building in a tribute to Bullfrog's Theme Park.
Two Point Studios and SEGA Europe have announced the "Rides & Relics" expansion for Two Point Museum, arriving October 8. The DLC shifts the game's focus by integrating theme park simulation elements into the existing museum management framework.
Available for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 for £9.99 (approximately $12.99), the expansion introduces a suite of construction tools. Players can now design custom mini-coasters using specific controls for height, tilt, and camber, with five distinct coaster themes available to customize the aesthetic. Beyond the rides, the update allows players to hire Mascots to engage with visitors. The content package also includes a new five-star campaign and a fresh museum location known as Riquetti Gardens. To unlock new perks and blueprints, players can dispatch experts on expeditions to the abandoned Gearbox Fairgrounds.
A Legacy of Simulation
This mechanical pivot is a deliberate nod to the history of the simulation genre. The DLC serves as a "tip of the hat" to Bullfrog Productions' classic title, Theme Park. This follows an established pattern for Two Point Studios, which previously built its identity by creating Two Point Hospital as a spiritual successor to Bullfrog's Theme Hospital. By weaving these elements into Two Point Museum, the studio is effectively bridging the gap between its current titles and the seminal 90s simulation games that inspired them.
Expanding the Gameplay Loop
The introduction of rideable attractions represents a significant shift in the game's core loop, moving it from a traditional "curate-em-up" toward a hybrid park simulator. For the industry, this demonstrates a trend of blending niche simulation genres to increase player retention and appeal to nostalgic audiences. By adding complex construction mechanics like camber and tilt controls, the studio is adding a layer of engineering depth that was previously absent from the museum's curation-heavy gameplay.
Future Outlook
While the initial launch targets current-gen consoles and PC, the studio has confirmed that the DLC is planned for a future release on Nintendo Switch 2. Players will be watching to see how these more complex construction tools translate to the next-generation handheld hardware. For now, the focus remains on the October 8 rollout and the integration of the Gearbox Fairgrounds expeditions into the broader campaign.
