NEURA Robotics Opens 3,000 Sq. M. Physical AI Training Facility at RWTH Aachen

The NEURA Gym RWTH Aachen is part of a $1.4 billion global network of 10 facilities designed to solve robotics' data scarcity problem.

NEURA Robotics and RWTH Aachen University will open a 3,000-square-meter Physical AI training facility at Hightech Campus Melaten by the end of 2026. The NEURA Gym RWTH Aachen tackles the central bottleneck in robotics development: real-world training data.

"The biggest bottleneck in Physical AI is no longer intelligence, it's experience," said NEURA CEO David Reger.

Unlike large language models that train on trillions of digital data points, physical robots lack real-world interaction data. Simulations fail to replicate real-world friction and unpredictability. The NEURA Gym network generates high-quality interaction data through physical training, feeding that data into NEURA's cloud-based Neuraverse platform.

Global Network Backed by $1.4 Billion

The Aachen facility is one of 10 planned NEURA Gyms across Europe, the U.S., and China. Five locations will be operational by the end of 2026. The infrastructure push is backed by NEURA's Series C financing of up to $1.4 billion, announced in June 2026.

Germany will host two flagship facilities. Alongside Aachen, the TUM RoboGym—spanning over 2,300 square meters—opens at Munich Airport in Q4 2026 in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich.

Academic Integration

The NEURA Gym RWTH Aachen will integrate approximately 20 RWTH institutes into its research agenda. Prof. Dr. Volkmar Schulz (Imaging and Computer Vision) and Prof. Dr. Burkhard Corves (Mechanism Theory, Machine Dynamics and Robotics) will shape the facility's direction.

"By combining this scientific leadership with a leading high-tech pioneer, we are creating a unique infrastructure for the skilled professionals of tomorrow and securing Germany's leading position in the global AI competition," said Prof. Dr. Ulrich Rüdiger, Rector of RWTH Aachen University.

Industrial Applications

The initiative industrializes training for humanoid and cognitive robots. By providing open infrastructure for corporate and academic partners, NEURA aims to create a scalable pipeline for robot skills in manufacturing, automotive, and healthcare.

The approach accelerates the transition of humanoid robots from research labs to production workflows. Physical training data generated at NEURA Gyms will train cognitive and humanoid models, bridging the gap between simulation and real-world deployment.

NEURA announced the partnership on July 22, 2026. The Aachen facility joins a growing global infrastructure dedicated to solving Physical AI's data gap through standardized, large-scale robot training environments.
