PlusAI reports safety and operational gains ahead of 2027 autonomous truck launch

PlusAI has released its commercial readiness metrics for the first half of 2026, signaling a steady progression toward the 2027 launch of factory-built autonomous trucks. The data highlights significant gains in safety validation and operational maturity for the company's SuperDrive software.
According to reports from The Robot Report and Robotics and Automation News, PlusAI's Safety Case Readiness (SCR) rose from 90.1% to 93.4% during the first half of the year. The company also saw its Autonomous Miles Percentage (AMP) grow from 99.2% to 99.8%. Furthermore, Remote Assistance-Free Trips (RAFT)—a measure of how often the truck operates without human intervention—increased to 85.2%, up from 79% in the second half of 2025.
The Path to Factory Integration
Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Santa Clara, California, PlusAI differentiates itself by focusing on factory integration with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) rather than retrofitting existing vehicles. This software-driven approach is designed to be more capital-efficient while addressing systemic freight costs and chronic driver shortages.
To support this transition, PlusAI released SuperDrive 6.0 in March 2026, which introduced critical capabilities for night driving and navigating construction zones. The company has also expanded its technical collaborations with NVIDIA and several global OEMs, including IVECO, Hyundai, and the TRATON GROUP, which encompasses Scania, MAN, and International.
Industry Implications
Moving from prototype trials to integrated production is one of the most difficult hurdles in the autonomous trucking sector. By publishing transparent, quantitative metrics, PlusAI is attempting to build confidence among regulators and industry partners regarding the scalability of driverless freight.
"Every six months, we publish our commercial readiness metrics because they provide a transparent view into our progress," said David Liu, co-founder and CEO of PlusAI. Shawn Kerrigan, co-founder and COO, added that commercialization requires proving the system is "safe, reliable and operationally efficient" through close coordination with fleets and ecosystem partners.

While the company is targeting a full commercial rollout in 2027, the industry continues to watch how these software gains translate to real-world reliability across diverse environments. While PlusAI previously explored a public listing via a merger with Churchill Capital Corp IX, that business combination agreement was terminated due to market conditions. The company's current focus remains on hitting its 2027 production milestones and further refining the SuperDrive ecosystem.
