Pixxel Raises $100M in India's Largest Space-Tech Funding Round

The Bengaluru-based startup will use Series C capital to scale satellite manufacturing and build planetary infrastructure.

Bengaluru-based space-tech startup Pixxel has raised $100 million in a Series C funding round, marking the largest single investment in an Indian space-technology company to date. The capital injection accelerates the company's transition from a hyperspectral imaging provider to a comprehensive planetary infrastructure operator.

The funding round was co-led by Temasek and Seraphim, with additional participation from 360 ONE Asset, IMM Investment, Radical Ventures, and growX ventures. This latest round brings Pixxel's total funding to $195 million. The company will utilize the funds to scale its satellite manufacturing and Earth intelligence software, specifically through the development of 'Gigapixxel,' a facility designed for high-rate satellite production.

The Shift to Planetary Infrastructure

Pixxel is evolving its business model to integrate sensors, software, and space systems into a unified ecosystem. This strategy centers on the Honeybee constellation and the Aurora Earth intelligence platform. To date, the company has deployed six Firefly satellites, which Pixxel claims constitute the world's highest-resolution commercial hyperspectral constellation.

This expansion is supported by a shifting regulatory landscape in India. The government's 2024 FDI policy changes, which allow up to 100% foreign investment in several space activities, have opened the sector to private players and international capital, enabling startups like Pixxel to scale more aggressively.

Strategic Partnerships and Market Impact

Beyond private investment, Pixxel has established critical institutional ties, securing contracts with NASA and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). Furthermore, Pixxel has been selected to lead India's first public-private Earth observation constellation, consisting of 12 satellites, under the guidance of IN-SPACe.

"Years ago, we set out to build a health monitor for the planet," said Awais Ahmed, Founder and CEO of Pixxel. "This new investment gives us the scale to turn that vision into planetary infrastructure."

Mark Boggett, CEO at Seraphim Space, noted that Pixxel is well-positioned across key industry themes, including AI-powered Earth observation and the emergence of India as a global SpaceTech leader. By combining high-resolution hyperspectral data with AI-driven software, the company aims to provide actionable intelligence for sovereign security and climate monitoring.

The Road Ahead

As Pixxel scales its manufacturing via the Gigapixxel facility, the industry will be watching for the successful deployment of the 12-satellite public-private constellation. The company's ability to convert this massive capital infusion into a sustainable, high-rate production cycle will serve as a bellwether for the maturity of the broader Indian commercial space sector, signaling a shift from experimental startups to large-scale infrastructure providers.
