Rocket Lab successfully launched the "The Grain Goddess Provides" mission from New Zealand on August 6, 2026, deploying a critical Earth-observing satellite. The mission marks a successful recovery for the company after a technical setback delayed the deployment by over a month.

Using its Electron rocket, Rocket Lab delivered the QPS-SAR-13 satellite, also known as Mikura-I, into orbit for the Institute for Q-shu Pioneers of Space (iQPS). The launch occurred approximately five weeks after an initial attempt on June 30, 2026, which was aborted seconds before liftoff. This successful flight ensures the Japanese company remains on track with its orbital objectives.

The Role of SAR Technology

iQPS is currently working to establish a constellation of 36 satellites in low Earth orbit utilizing synthetic aperture radar (SAR). Unlike traditional optical satellites that rely on visible light, SAR technology allows for high-resolution imaging regardless of cloud cover, smoke, or total darkness.
