South Korea's CONTEC Space Group to Build Satellite Hub in Kazakhstan

South Korean aerospace firm CONTEC Space Group is in discussions to establish a high-tech production hub in Kazakhstan. The initiative aims to localize the manufacture of satellite components and large-scale ground antenna systems, marking a significant step in bilateral space cooperation.

The proposal was advanced during a visit by Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Development, Jaslan Madiev, to CONTEC's assembly and testing complex in Seoul. During the visit, Madiev met with CONTEC Chairperson Sunghee Lee to discuss joint investment and technological projects. The planned facility would not only serve domestic needs but act as a strategic export base for satellite hardware targeting markets in Central Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

Shifting the Space Paradigm

Kazakhstan has long been recognized globally as a critical node in space exploration due to the Baikonur Cosmodrome. However, the government is currently pursuing a strategic pivot to diversify its economy and move beyond its role as a launch site.
