StartBlue Welcomes 13 Marine Tech Startups to Ocean Enterprise Accelerator
A joint UC San Diego and Scripps Institution of Oceanography initiative helps science-based ventures bridge the gap between discovery and commercial scale.
StartBlue has launched a new cohort of its Ocean Enterprise Accelerator, designed to bridge the gap between marine scientific discovery and commercial viability. The program provides a structured pathway for startups to scale operations through specialized mentorship, targeted training, and industry networking.
The current cohort comprises 13 teams divided into two growth stages. The Launch track includes AquaPoro Technologies, Dolphin Labs, Euler Materials, KAHU, Nereus Systems, Ocean Analytical Engineering, and the Polar Geophysics Lab. The Scale track features more established ventures, including Bellamare, Del Mar Oceanographic, Flood Dynamics, LiftLabs, Ocean Motion Technologies, and Reefgen. These companies are leveraging institutional support to translate science-based data technologies into market-ready products.
The Blue Economy Context
This initiative is a joint effort between the UC San Diego Rady School of Management and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. It arrives as the "blue economy" experiences a surge in investment and a growing focus on sustainable ocean technologies. Current industry trends show a shift toward integrating marine robotics and advanced aquaculture to better manage ocean resources.
