A significant portion of this funding—over £3 billion—is dedicated specifically to military space capabilities. This includes £880 million earmarked for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems and space control mechanisms to track and mitigate orbital threats.
A Shift in Industrial Focus
This new framework replaces the 2021 National Space Strategy and aligns with the UK's Modern Industrial Strategy. By consolidating government procurement of space technology, the administration aims to prioritize British suppliers and accelerate the delivery of critical infrastructure. The move comes as the UK seeks to maximize the potential of a domestic space sector already valued at £18.6 billion, which currently supports more than 55,000 jobs.
