Alif Semiconductor has released a new series of low-cost evaluation boards, dubbed StartKits, to simplify the implementation of edge AI. Priced at $49, these kits make AI-native hardware more accessible to developers working with the company's Ensemble (SK-E1C) and Balletto (SK-B1) microcontroller (MCU) platforms.

The StartKits provide a streamlined path for testing hardware that integrates neural processing units (NPUs) directly into the silicon. Specifically, the Balletto B1 StartKit (SK-B1) features a Cortex-M55 CPU core with the Helium-M Vector Extension, operating at a clock speed of 160 MHz. By offering these tools at a significantly lower price point than traditional high-end evaluation boards, Alif targets a broader range of developers and engineers.

The Shift to AI-Native Silicon

Founded in 2019, Alif Semiconductor focuses on creating microcontrollers that consolidate CPUs, NPUs, memory, and security features onto a single chip.
