AMEC Targets 60% High-End Semiconductor Equipment Market Coverage by 2030

The Shanghai-based manufacturer aims to expand its portfolio to 100 equipment types to challenge global chipmaking tool dominance.

Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc. (AMEC) has launched an aggressive growth strategy to capture at least 60% of the high-end semiconductor equipment market within the next five years. The move signals a major escalation in the company's effort to transition from a domestic provider to a global powerhouse in chip manufacturing tools.

To achieve this target, AMEC plans to expand its product portfolio to more than 100 types of high-end equipment through a combination of internal research and development and external acquisitions. The company is currently leveraging a strong financial trajectory; in 2025, AMEC reported revenue of RMB 12.385 billion, a 36.62% year-on-year increase, with a net profit of approximately RMB 2.111 billion. This growth is supported by heavy investment in innovation, with the company spending RMB 3.74 billion on R&D last year, accounting for 30.2% of its total revenue.

According to industry data from TrendForce, AMEC has already deployed over 8,800 process chambers across more than 170 customers globally, maintaining a cumulative installed base growth rate of over 35% annually for 14 years. Notably, the company's capacitively coupled plasma (CCP) etching systems have already entered volume production for multiple key DRAM process steps at CXMT.

Breaking Foreign Dominance

Founded in 2004, the Shanghai-based firm specializes in MOCVD reactors, thin-film deposition, and plasma etch tools. For decades, the high-end semiconductor equipment market has been dominated by a small group of Western and Japanese suppliers. AMEC has positioned itself as a critical pillar of China's drive for semiconductor self-sufficiency, developing domestic alternatives for high-precision tools. Its current etching portfolio is particularly competitive, supporting advanced applications ranging from 65nm down to the cutting-edge 3nm node.

Global Market Implications

AMEC's ambition to scale its product range and increase its manufacturing capacity to a planned annual value of RMB 70 billion represents a strategic shift. By targeting a 60% coverage rate of high-end equipment categories, the company is no longer merely seeking to replace foreign tools within China, but is positioning itself as a direct competitor to first-tier global suppliers. This expansion threatens the long-term market share of established incumbents as AMEC scales its ability to provide a comprehensive suite of high-end tools.

The Road to 2035

Looking ahead, the company has set a definitive long-term horizon for its evolution. "The company's long-term goal is to become a global first-tier semiconductor equipment supplier by 2035 in terms of scale, product competitiveness and customer satisfaction," stated AMEC Chairman Yin Zhiyao, according to China Daily. The industry will now watch whether AMEC can successfully integrate its planned acquisitions and maintain its R&D pace to meet these specific 2030 and 2035 benchmarks.
