Applied Materials Hits Record $9.12 Billion Revenue on AI Infrastructure Surge

Applied Materials (AMAT) has entered a significant growth cycle as the global buildout of AI infrastructure accelerates. The company is seeing a surge in demand for the specialized equipment required to produce the increasingly complex chips that power artificial intelligence.

In its Q3 FY2026 results, Applied Materials reported record revenue of $9.12 billion, marking a 25% increase year-over-year. The company also achieved its 13th consecutive quarter of year-over-year gross-margin expansion, with margins now exceeding 50%. Looking ahead, the company has projected Q4 revenue of approximately $10.25 billion. To support this trajectory, AMAT is investing $500 million to more than double its advanced cleanroom capacity at its Tampines campus in Singapore.

The Shift Toward Structural Complexity

The current growth is not merely a result of higher wafer volumes, but a fundamental shift in how chips are designed. AI accelerators require advanced materials engineering for deposition, etch, and inspection to function. Specifically, the industry is moving toward High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) and advanced packaging to overcome data bottlenecks.

To address these needs, Applied Materials recently launched six new systems specifically targeting DRAM and advanced packaging. These systems focus on critical processes such as Through-Silicon Via (TSV) formation and HBM stacking, which allow memory to be layered vertically, drastically increasing performance and efficiency for AI workloads.

Industry Implications

This expansion indicates that the AI boom has moved beyond software and chip design into tangible capital expenditure for manufacturing equipment. By diversifying its portfolio across leading-edge logic, advanced DRAM, and packaging, AMAT is positioning itself as a primary beneficiary of the structural complexity of AI hardware. The company is no longer relying solely on the cyclical nature of consumer electronics but is instead tethered to the long-term infrastructure requirements of the data center.

Applied Materials has set an ambitious target to double its systems output capacity by calendar year 2028. This goal underscores the company's expectation that the demand for AI-capable silicon will remain sustained for the foreseeable future.
