This shift in strategy comes as the market grapples with the "RAMpocalypse," a severe shortage of both DRAM and NAND flash memory. The crisis is driven by massive AI infrastructure buildouts, with hyperscale data centers consuming the lion's share of available memory to power large-scale AI models. This enterprise-level demand has effectively stripped the consumer market of conventional supply, leading to significant price escalations for both system RAM and SSDs.
The Performance Gap
The technical allure of the latest hardware remains high; modern PCIe 5.0 SSDs can reach peak read speeds of approximately 14,500 MB/s. To put this in perspective, these drives vastly exceed the 100-150 MB/s typically found in traditional hard disk drives.
