Global semiconductor equipment manufacturers are significantly increasing their recruitment of technical experts in South Korea to support the rapid expansion of domestic chip production. This hiring surge is primarily driven by the race for leadership in advanced nodes and the scaling of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and advanced DRAM facilities.

According to a report from the Maeil Business Newspaper, the recruitment drive focuses heavily on Field Service Engineers (FSE) and Process Engineers (PE) responsible for the installation, maintenance, and optimization of next-generation machinery. ASML Korea is currently recruiting on a three-digit scale, seeking hundreds of both new and experienced employees. Similarly, Lam Research Korea conducted open recruitment for new FSEs during the second half of the year, while Tokyo Electron has recruited dozens of FEs and PEs through its internship programs. Additionally, Applied Materials (AMAT) is investing in a dedicated semiconductor equipment and technology operation management facility in Yongin.

The Push for Advanced Memory

South Korea serves as the global epicenter for memory chips, led by industry giants Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. As the artificial intelligence boom accelerates, these companies are aggressively expanding their production capabilities to meet the soaring demand for HBM and advanced DRAM. This expansion requires a massive influx of specialized equipment and the technical expertise to operate it. To maintain a competitive edge, Korean chipmakers rely on tight integration with global equipment providers like ASML, Applied Materials, Lam Research, and Tokyo Electron, who must scale their local workforces to match the pace of fab construction.
