Fujitsu has revealed the technical specifications of its Monaka CPU, a high-performance computing (HPC) processor utilizing a sophisticated chiplet architecture. Detailed at Hot Chips 2026, the announcement signals a strategic shift in how the company handles memory and vector processing for next-generation data centers.

The Monaka CPU departs from traditional monolithic designs by utilizing a separate 5nm die dedicated entirely to its cache stack. This chiplet-based approach is paired with a transition to a 256-bit implementation of the Scalable Vector Extension 2 (SVE2). According to Fujitsu, the processor will launch in 2027 with two distinct power-variant SKUs: a high-efficiency model rated at 350W and a high-performance variant reaching 500W.

Evolution of ARM-based HPC

The Monaka CPU is the latest evolution in Fujitsu's lineage of ARM-based processors, following the A64FX. While the A64FX relied on a wider 512-bit SVE, the Monaka narrows this to 256-bit.
