GE Appliances, a Haier company, has expanded its sourcing partnership with Texas Instruments (TI) to secure a more stable supply of critical electronic components. The move is designed to insulate production lines from global volatility by prioritizing domestic manufacturing.
Under the terms of the agreement, Texas Instruments will supply one-third of the semiconductors used at the GE Appliances factory in Louisville, Kentucky. The partnership focuses on the integration of TI's U.S.-manufactured microcontrollers, analog components, and Wi-Fi connectivity solutions. Specifically, these components are being integrated into the next generation of connected laundry appliances. The collaboration also includes the use of TI's reference designs and gallium nitride (GaN) intelligent power modules.
The Shift Toward Nearshoring
