Infineon Technologies AG is acquiring C2i Semiconductors, a Bengaluru-based startup specializing in software-defined power systems. The move aims to optimize power delivery for AI data centers, addressing the critical energy demands of next-generation processors.
C2i Semiconductors focuses on software-defined multiphase controllers and smart power stages. The acquisition specifically targets "grid to core" power delivery, which manages the complex electrical path from the utility grid directly to the processor core. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of calendar year 2026. As part of the deal, Infineon will establish a new center of excellence for digital power technologies within India.
The Challenge of AI Power
Modern AI processors create highly dynamic power demands that shift rapidly depending on the workload. Traditional power delivery systems often struggle to maintain stability and efficiency under these volatile conditions. C2i’s approach solves this by pairing semiconductors with digital control and algorithms, allowing power conversion and regulation to be adjusted in real time.
