Modders have successfully enabled DLSS Multi-Frame Generation (MFG) on RTX 40-series GPUs, bypassing restrictions intended to keep the feature exclusive to the RTX 50 'Blackwell' series. The workaround allows users to experience high-end frame interpolation on older hardware, effectively backporting a flagship feature of the latest generation.

Several distinct workarounds have emerged, most notably a project by modder 'dashdogy' known as RTX40MFG-Unlock. This tool provides specific controls for Cyberpunk 2077 as well as a universal version delivered via a ReShade plugin. According to the project's documentation, the mod implements 'Ada temporal correction' to handle frame timing and pacing on RTX 40-series hardware. This technical adjustment allows Ada Lovelace GPUs to place frames in the correct positions, enabling multipliers beyond the standard 2x—reaching up to 6x—and supporting Dynamic FG.

The Battle Over Hardware Exclusivity

NVIDIA marketed Multi-Frame Generation as a core feature of the Blackwell architecture. While the company positioned the feature as requiring specific hardware capabilities, the success of these mods suggests that the limitation may be a software lock rather than a physical impossibility. By implementing software-based temporal corrections, modders have proven that the RTX 40 series is capable of handling the workload, provided the software instructions are modified to accommodate the older architecture.

This is not the first time NVIDIA's exclusivity claims have been challenged by the community. The company previously claimed that DLSS 5 'Neural Rendering' was exclusive to the Blackwell series, only to reverse that decision after modders successfully ported the technology to older NVIDIA cards and even competing AMD GPUs.
