Ondo Finance Tokenizes Invesco Semiconductor ETF for Global Investors

The new SOXQon token provides non-U.S. investors with blockchain-based exposure to the PHLX Semiconductor index.

Ondo Finance has launched a tokenized version of the Invesco PHLX Semiconductor ETF, bridging the gap between traditional equity markets and blockchain infrastructure. Traded under the ticker SOXQon, the product allows institutional and retail investors outside the United States to gain economic exposure to the semiconductor sector.

Launched on June 17, 2026, SOXQon provides economic exposure similar to holding the underlying SOXQ ETF, including the reinvestment of dividends. To ensure broad accessibility, the asset is available across multiple blockchain networks, including Ethereum, Solana, and the BNB Chain. This tokenized wrapper leverages the liquidity of traditional exchanges within a digital format, enabling more efficient access to the chip industry.

The RWA Framework

This launch is part of a broader trend in decentralized finance (DeFi) known as the tokenization of Real World Assets (RWA). The movement aims to migrate traditional financial instruments, such as stocks and ETFs, onto the blockchain to eliminate traditional brokerage barriers. By utilizing a distributed tokenization framework, Ondo Finance enables global investors to trade U.S. equities with the speed and efficiency of crypto-assets.

To maintain regulatory compliance, the asset is issued by Ondo Global Markets, which is domiciled in the British Virgin Islands. The product operates under the U.S. Securities Act Reg. S Exemption, specifically targeting non-U.S. persons. The operational infrastructure is supported by a suite of professional service providers: BitGo serves as the crypto custodian, Alpaca Securities acts as the traditional broker and transfer agent, and BPM UK Audit Ltd provides auditing services.

Market Implications

The introduction of SOXQon demonstrates a scalable model for diversifying cryptocurrency portfolios with high-growth technology exposure. By focusing on a sector-specific index like the PHLX Semiconductor, Ondo provides a pathway for investors to hedge or speculate on the chip industry without requiring a direct U.S. brokerage account. This integration suggests a future where the distinction between traditional equity trading and digital asset management continues to blur.

Future Outlook

As the RWA sector matures, the industry will monitor the adoption rates of sector-specific tokens compared to broader index trackers. While the infrastructure for SOXQon is now live across three major chains, regulatory shifts in the British Virgin Islands or the U.S. could impact the Reg. S framework. Investors will likely watch whether Ondo expands this tokenized wrapper model to other Invesco products or different thematic ETFs to further broaden the accessibility of traditional finance.
