According to data from Electrical Engineering, semiconductor applications now represent approximately 50% of Precision Micro's total revenue. This expansion is underpinned by the scaling of supply chains for advanced semiconductor manufacturing. To support this growth, the company has secured multiple six-figure orders this year for thermal management systems and ultra-precise metal components.

The Role of Chemical Etching

Precision Micro specializes in the chemical etching of sheet metals, working with materials ranging from 25 microns to 1.5mm. These high-precision components are critical to the semiconductor ecosystem, specifically within mass flow control systems used for process gases during wafer fabrication. Additionally, the company produces heat exchanger plates and precision cooling plates essential for semiconductor equipment and the dense power requirements of AI infrastructure.

A Shift to Structural Expansion

This growth represents more than a temporary market spike. Ben Kitson, Head of Business Development at Precision Micro, stated that semiconductor demand is shifting from "cyclical growth to sustained structural expansion," a trend he attributes to ongoing investments in advanced computing and AI.

This transition is evidenced by a change in customer behavior. Precision Micro reports that clients are now providing demand forecasts that extend through the end of 2027. This suggests that semiconductor manufacturers are moving strategically to lock in specialist manufacturing capacity years in advance to prevent the kind of production bottlenecks that have previously plagued the global chip supply chain.

Industry Implications

For the wider industry, the reliance on specialist etchers like Precision Micro highlights the physical constraints of the AI boom. While much of the focus remains on chip architecture, the scaling of AI requires a corresponding increase in the precision hardware used to build those chips and the thermal systems required to keep them cool. The move toward long-term forecasting indicates that the industry views the current AI-driven demand not as a bubble, but as a permanent baseline for industrial growth.
