Tesla and SpaceX are planning a $16.8 billion investment to construct a specialized semiconductor manufacturing facility in Grimes County, Texas. The first phase of the Terafab facility is designed to meet a computing demand of 1 terawatt (1TW) of output per year. This massive scale is intended to support the expanding hardware ecosystems of both companies, providing the custom silicon necessary for high-performance AI applications. While the companies move toward internal fabrication, Tesla continues to maintain external partnerships, including a separate $16.5 billion agreement with Samsung for the production of its next-generation AI6 chips.
