Ugreen Debuts HomeAgent: Local-First AI Hub to Rival Cloud Giants
The new platform integrates NAS storage and Nvidia-powered AI to eliminate monthly subscriptions and enhance privacy.
Ugreen has introduced HomeAgent, a local-first smart home platform designed to shift data processing and AI control from the cloud to the home. Unveiled at the IFA tech show, the system integrates network-attached storage (NAS), on-device AI, and comprehensive smart home management into a single ecosystem.
Managed by a voice assistant named Uliya, HomeAgent aims to eliminate the monthly cloud subscriptions common among smart home providers by processing all data and video footage locally. The platform operates as a Matter controller and provides broad connectivity support, including Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Thread, Bluetooth, NFC, ONVIF/RTSP, and PoE. To support the ecosystem, Ugreen is launching a dedicated smart speaker for Uliya alongside a suite of SynCare security cameras, featuring the Indoor Cam ID500 Pro, the PoE Cam OD600 Pro, and the battery-powered OD800 Pro.
A Tiered Approach to AI
Ugreen is deploying the platform across three distinct hardware tiers to accommodate different user needs. The entry-level HA100 handles basic rule-based automation, while the HA100 Pro introduces semantic and context-aware understanding for more complex interactions. At the top of the stack is the MasterAgent MA100, a high-performance AI hub. The MA100 is powered by the Nvidia Jetson Thor T5000 platform, which delivers up to 2,070 FP4 TFLOPS of AI performance, allowing heavy computational tasks to be handled entirely on-premises.
The Pivot to Local Intelligence
Traditionally recognized for its chargers, power banks, and NAS storage, Ugreen is using HomeAgent to pivot strategically into the smart home market. This move places the company in direct competition with other "local-first" AI initiatives from brands such as Aqara, Reolink, SwitchBot, and Anker's Eufy MindBase. By leveraging its existing expertise in storage, Ugreen is positioning itself as a privacy-centric alternative to the cloud-dependent models used by industry giants like Google Nest and Amazon Ring.
Implications for the Market
This shift reflects growing consumer fatigue regarding recurring subscription fees and the privacy risks associated with cloud-stored video footage. By combining high-end Nvidia hardware with local storage, Ugreen is targeting power users and privacy-conscious homeowners who want the benefits of advanced AI—such as sophisticated object recognition and context-aware automation—without sending personal data to external servers. If successful, this could accelerate a broader industry trend toward decentralized smart home architectures.
Launch Timeline
Ugreen plans to bring the HomeAgent ecosystem to market via a Kickstarter campaign. The launch is scheduled for October 27, where the company will offer the system to early adopters. While the technical specifications for the MasterAgent MA100 are confirmed, the final retail pricing for the high-end tier remains a key detail for potential buyers to watch as the campaign begins.
