According to reports from The New Stack, the Chinese AI stack is expected to integrate Alibaba's Qwen model and potentially incorporate technology from Baidu. This stands in stark contrast to Apple's global strategy, where Apple Intelligence relies on a combination of Apple's own Foundation Models and a multi-year licensing agreement with Google to utilize Gemini for complex cloud-based requests. To facilitate this rollout, Apple registered its generative AI service with the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) in July, a critical regulatory step that may make it one of the first foreign firms approved to offer a proprietary AI model in the region.

The Regulatory Divide

Because Apple Intelligence depends on a hybrid architecture of on-device processing and cloud-based large language models (LLMs), the company cannot simply export its global cloud infrastructure.
