AurionMail Launches Open-Source E2EE Suite to Rival ProtonMail UX

AurionMail has released an open-source, self-hostable productivity suite that integrates end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) email and document collaboration. The project aims to provide a seamless user experience for sovereign data management without the fragmentation typically found in self-hosted security tools.

To achieve this, AurionMail orchestrates a combination of established tools, including Stalwart Mail Server, Bulwark Webmail, CryptPad, Ory Hydra, and OpenPGP. The suite is designed to eliminate the need for users to manage separate accounts and passwords for different encrypted services. Central to this is a Zero-Knowledge architecture, which allows a single master password to handle the encryption and decryption of both emails and documents across the platform.

The Technical Framework

The suite's technical stack relies on a custom SSO Web App and a Core-API specifically designed for key synchronization. To ensure compatibility with encrypted mail, the project includes a dedicated PGP plugin for Bulwark Webmail.

To lower the barrier to deployment, AurionMail provides a tool called "Orchestra." This is a single binary that bundles the Core API, SSO, Hydra, Bulwark, and Bridges, along with a customized version of CryptPad.
