JieGou Launches Tally to Automate Spreadsheet and Report Verification

The in-browser tool reconciles business report figures against source data to eliminate manual calculation errors.

JieGou has released Tally, an in-browser verification tool designed to reconcile figures in business reports and spreadsheets against their underlying source data. The platform aims to eliminate the manual errors and formula glitches that frequently plague financial reporting.

The tool allows users to upload .xlsx files or connect Google Sheets to independently recompute totals and flag discrepancies. To ensure data privacy, Tally operates entirely in-browser, meaning spreadsheets are processed locally on the user's device rather than being uploaded to a central server. Beyond static files, the platform integrates with QuickBooks via read-only access, enabling users to reconcile report figures directly against actual accounting invoices and credit memos.

The Reconciliation Gap

In professional business reporting, a critical distinction often exists between "reviewed" data and "reconciled" data. Manual errors in spreadsheet formulas or the accidental double-counting of entries can lead to figures that are either overstated or understated in final reports. Tally addresses this by treating the summary report and the raw data as two separate entities that must be mathematically matched, rather than assuming the report's internal logic is correct.

Reducing Audit Friction

For financial professionals and business owners, reporting errors can result in significant loss of trust or flawed strategic decisions. Tally shifts the burden of proof from the reporter to the data itself. A primary feature is the "Verified" shareable link, which allows third parties to click a specific figure and view the exact source rows used for that calculation. This provides a digital "receipt" for every number, potentially reducing the time spent on manual audits and the repetitive back-and-forth verification typically required between managers and clients.

Automated Monitoring

To prevent data drift, Tally includes a connection to Google Sheets that supports scheduled re-verifications. The system automatically alerts users when data stops "tying out," ensuring that reports remain accurate as source data evolves. Additionally, the platform offers a "Client Books Report" feature designed for bookkeepers taking over new clients, which checks books against bank statements to identify common accounting errors.

As firms increasingly rely on complex, interconnected spreadsheets, the ability to independently verify totals without compromising data privacy through server uploads represents a shift toward more transparent financial workflows.
