Knovation Solutions brings BlueFlag's identity-centric SDLC security to Africa

South African cybersecurity provider Knovation Solutions has announced the availability of BlueFlag Security's Identity-Centric Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) risk platform across South Africa and the broader African continent. The move aims to secure the software supply chain against emerging threats posed by the rapid adoption of AI-driven development tools.

Unlike traditional security tools that focus primarily on scanning source code for vulnerabilities, BlueFlag's platform governs the identities interacting with that code. This includes human developers, service accounts, and AI agents. By shifting the focus to identity governance, the platform seeks to close visibility gaps regarding who—or what—is modifying and deploying enterprise software.

The rise of non-human identities

The shift comes as organizations increasingly integrate AI-assisted development tools into their workflows. While these tools accelerate production, they introduce a surge of non-human identities, including deployment tokens and API keys, that possess significant access to sensitive source code.

William Hardie, Managing Director of Knovation Solutions, noted that while most organizations can track their human headcount, very few have a clear understanding of how many total identities, including service accounts and AI agents, interact with their source code daily. Raj Mallempati, Co-Founder and CEO of BlueFlag Security, added that AI agents have quickly evolved into non-human identities with "super-human capabilities," making governance in the SDLC a pressing priority.

For sectors with stringent compliance requirements—including government, healthcare, and financial services—the ability to verify every identity in the SDLC is critical for safe digital transformation. As development moves toward AI-driven models, the industry is seeing a necessary transition from simple code scanning to comprehensive identity governance to prevent security incidents.

This strategic expansion into Africa follows a period of growth for the San Francisco-headquartered BlueFlag Security, which recently secured $28 million in Series A funding to scale its identity-centric approach to software security.
